Plant production at the Faial Botanic Garden is one of the fundamental pillars of the conservation actions carried out under the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action. This nursery plays an essential role in preserving rare and protected species in the Azores, contributing to conserving the Archipelago\u2019s biodiversity. Seeds are collected from all the islands of the Azores, usually in places where natural populations are in decline or need strengthening. These seeds are sown and carefully cared for until they reach the ideal size to be reintroduced into their natural habitats<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This work is part of Action C3.2 \u2013 \u201cIn-situ<\/em> conservation\u201d of the project, which aims to strengthen populations of target species in specific intervention areas.<\/p>\n

The cultivation process at the Botanic Garden is a clear example of how conservation techniques can help restore fragile ecosystems and protect unique species in the Azores. In the images, you can see some of these plants, already of a significant size, ready to be returned to nature.<\/p>\n

These actions not only promote ecological balance and habitat<\/em> recovery but also reinforce the commitment of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project to protecting the Azorean natural heritage, guaranteeing the viability of species that are part of the Archipelago\u2019s unique identity.<\/p>\n
