As part of action C4.1 \u2013 Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats<\/em>, the Corvo Environment and Climate Action Service team is continuing its work to install fencing in the Caldeir\u00e3o and Trevo areas, with the installation of more than 1 km of fencing.<\/p>\n

The aim is to delimit these areas to promote the natural regeneration of native and endemic species, contributing to the recovery of existing natural habitats<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the entire Caldeir\u00e3o area also provides an essential environmental service, as Corvo\u2019s artificial lagoons are fed by rainwater, water accumulated in the thick tufts of Sphagnum<\/em> sp. (peat moss) on the north-facing slopes, and condensation from atmospheric moisture.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the installation of fencing to prevent livestock from accessing these areas is also essential to improve the conservation status of peatland habitats<\/em> and ensure water supply to the population.<\/p>\n
