The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, was present at the 1st LIFE SNAILS Technical Workshop, a meeting dedicated to the control of invasive species, habitat restoration, natural engineering, monitoring and evaluation of the impact of LIFE projects.<\/p>\n

During the event, the project manager presented the communication \u2018Integrated Strategy for Regional Control of Invasive Alien Species (IAS)\u2019, highlighting the work carried out under the Regional Strategy for the Control and Prevention of IAS, currently in the final stages of review and approval.<\/p>\n

The presentation also emphasised the importance of citizen science in supporting the monitoring and identification of invasive species, as well as the results achieved in the intervention areas of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA \u2014 from the removal of a significant number of invasive species to the identification of the most frequently occurring species.<\/p>\n

The excellent work of the Santa Maria Environment and Climate Action Service was also recognised, particularly in the removal of Agave americana<\/em> in Ponta do Castelo and the ecological restoration of that area.<\/p>\n

Much of this work requires continuous field action, with control methods adapted to each species and location. It is a demanding and persistent effort, especially in areas where species are more resistant. Despite the challenges, the teams\u2019 commitment has been exemplary, demonstrating determination to mitigate one of the greatest threats to biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The experience shared in this workshop reinforces the need for an integrated, collaborative strategy that involves all entities and the community, promoting a more sustainable, resilient region committed to protecting its natural heritage.<\/p>\n

This participation is part of the actions E2 \u2018Project Dissemination\u2019 and E3 \u2018Networking\u2019 of LIFE IP AZORES NATURA.<\/p>\n
