In March, as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, the team from the S\u00e3o Miguel Island Environment and Climate Action Service planted 259 specimens of Azorean Spurge (Euphorbia stygiana<\/em>) on the embankment of the car park at the Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint.<\/p>\n

This initiative forms part of Action C3.2 \u2013 In-situ<\/em> Conservation, of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, which carries out pilot schemes aimed at conserving the endemic flora of the Azores. The population reinforcement of this protected species contributes to the recovery of its natural populations and to improving its conservation status.<\/p>\n

The plants were produced at the Pomar das Furnas nursery, and the work was carried out by the team from the S\u00e3o Miguel Island Environment and Climate Action Service.<\/p>\n

This population reinforcement represents a further step in the ongoing commitment to protect and enhance the unique biodiversity of Lagoa do Fogo and the island of S\u00e3o Miguel, whilst also contributing to improving the conservation status of this species in the Azores.<\/p>\n

With the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.<\/p>\n
