In the end of October, a volunteering activity took place to remove invasive flora in Pico do Carv\u00e3o, Sete Cidades, S\u00e3o Miguel island. This activity was promoted by the University of the Azores in partnership with the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project and the S\u00e3o Miguel Environment and Climate Change Service, with the participation of 14 students from the Erasmus programme.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the activity, about 6000 kg of biomass was removed, mainly from the removal of Chilean Rhubarb (\ud835\ude0e\ud835\ude36\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude33\ud835\ude22 \ud835\ude35\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude24\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude33\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude22), an invasive species with high reproductive capacity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In order to make the most out of the work achieved by the student team, the planting of native species in this location is being planned, thus promoting the recovery of the area and occupying the space freed up by removing this invasive species.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This year, on the island of S\u00e3o Miguel, and as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, several volunteer actions were organised in which it was possible to remove large quantities of invasive alien species, thus contributing to the recovery of threatened \ud835\ude29\ud835\ude22\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude22\ud835\ude35 on this island and improving the conservation status of endemic flora.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
