Last November, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project participated in the Graciosa Island Nature Park Advisory Board, within the scope of Action F4 – Stakeholder Board, where it presented the status of the work carried out on the island.
Among the most relevant results achieved are:
– The collection of 1003 grams of seeds from 12 target species (2024–2025), intended for propagation and direct sowing.
– The continuation of invasive species control actions in Ponta Branca, ensuring the preservation of one of the largest populations of Ammi trifoliatum in the Azores.
– The introduction of more than 2,000 individuals of Ammi trifoliatum in the same area.
– Alerting private landowners to the need to remove specimens of the invasive species Cortaderia selloana (pampas grass).
– The ongoing removal of invasive alien species on the two islets of Graciosa.
– The planting and direct sowing of native species in coastal habitats.
– The improvement of the Ilhéu da Praia walking trail, promoting more sustainable use of the space.
– The installation of 101 artificial nests and the construction of new nests for the Barolo Shearwater, currently underway.
– The replication of conservation actions on Ilhéu de Baixo.
The Council also mentioned the praise given to LIFE IP AZORES NATURA and the Graciosa Environment and Climate Action Service during the 7th European Union Monitoring Visit to the project, which was recognised as an ‘exemplary team’ for its work on this project.
