As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, 402 specimens of Azorean Dock (Rumex azoricus), an endemic species of the Azores with an unfavourable conservation status, were planted on the island of São Miguel. This species is protected under the Habitats Directive and is therefore a target species of the project.
The intervention is part of Action C3.2 – Implementation of pilot works for the conservation of endemic flora – In situ conservation – which aims to strengthen populations and improve the conservation status of endangered endemic plant species through practical field actions.
The planting was carried out by the Environment and Climate Action Service of the island of São Miguel, ensuring the correct implementation of conservation actions and the necessary technical monitoring.
The specimens used were previously produced in the nurseries of Pomar das Furnas.
