As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, a safety line has been installed on Ilhéu da Vila, on Santa Maria, to ensure access to the work area designated for seabird monitoring.
This temporary infrastructure enables technical teams to access the islet more safely, providing better conditions for fieldwork. The safety line is assembled only during operational periods and dismantled after each use, being reinstalled whenever necessary.
The initiative is part of Action C6.1 – Restoration of habitats on islets for seabirds, helping to improve working conditions in areas where conservation and monitoring activities for these species are taking place, and was carried out in collaboration with the team from the Santa Maria Environment and Climate Action Service and the Santa Maria Volunteer Firefighters’ Humanitarian Association.
