The São Miguel Environment and Climate Action Service carried out a new population reinforcement action, within the scope of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, part of action C3.2 – In-situ Conservation. This intervention aimed to reinforce populations of endemic species, contributing to their long-term conservation and to the resilience of the ecosystems where they occur.

22 specimens of Angelica lignescens were planted in Lagoa do Canário, six specimens of Scabiosa nitens on Pico da Cruz, in Sete Cidades, and 125 specimens of Chaerophyllum azoricum on the ridge of Lagoa das Sete Cidades. This action also marks the first population reinforcement carried out for Scabiosa nitens, representing a significant step towards the preservation of this endemic and protected species of high ecological importance.

All the plants used were produced in the Furnas Orchard, guaranteeing the quality and proper origin of the plant material used in the conservation of the native flora of the Azores.
