On 25 April, a volunteer action was carried out dedicated to the removal of invasive alien species in Lagoa do Carvão, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada. The activity was part of the Open Day of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, and was developed within the scope of Action E5 –Volunteer Programme of the project.

The initiative involved the active participation of volunteers who, under the guidance of the technical team, contributed to the management and recovery of this natural ecosystem, helping to minimize the negative impacts of invasive alien species on native habitats and species.

In addition to the direct contribution to nature conservation, this action also had a strong component of awareness and environmental education, reinforcing the importance of community engagement in protecting the natural values of the Azores and in implementing the measures foreseen in the project.

The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project thanks all volunteers for their availability, commitment and spirit of collaboration, highlighting the fundamental role of volunteering for the success of biodiversity conservation actions in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
