Throughout the first half of 2026, the Azorean photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Pepe Brix travelled across the nine islands of the Azores to follow and document some of the key initiatives carried out as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action. The work will result in a documentary that portrays the results achieved over the last eight years in conserving Azorean biodiversity.

Filming covered various areas of the project’s work, including habitat restoration, control of invasive alien species, ecological restoration, conservation of threatened species, and enhancement of ecosystems of high natural interest. The aim is to document the impact of these initiatives and to raise awareness of the work carried out in the field by the various partner organisations.

In addition to the conservation activities, the documentary will also seek to give a voice to the people who have contributed to the implementation of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, highlighting the role of the organisations involved, the technical teams, researchers, protected area managers, landowners and volunteers in protecting and enhancing the Azores’ natural heritage.

The documentary will also feature a contribution and testimony from the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, on the project’s importance and the work carried out in recent years to promote nature conservation and biodiversity in the Archipelago.

The forthcoming production will also serve as a tool for raising awareness and disseminating information, bringing the public closer to the challenges and achievements of nature conservation in the Azores and highlighting the contribution of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project to the protection of the Region’s biodiversity.
