22/10/2025 The objective of this call for proposals, launched under the Connecting Europe Facility Digital program, is to support the deployment or modernization of backbone networks within the framework of the EU’s Global Gateway Digital Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of connectivity within the Union (including the Overseas Countries and Territories – OCTs) as well as between Member States and third countries.
The EU will support the construction of infrastructure that addresses the connectivity needs of a region or the Union as a whole, integrating complementary routes that improve redundancy and include cutting-edge technological solutions. Projects with clear benefits in terms of cost-effectiveness and synergies between stakeholders (such as parties involved, regions, Member States, etc.) are encouraged.
This call will also support studies, which may include computer-based studies, seabed surveys for submarine cables, or applications for necessary permits—in other words, all preparatory work required prior to infrastructure construction.
The goal of this preparatory phase should be the deployment of backbone infrastructure that enhances the quality of connectivity within the Union (including the OCTs) and between Member States and third countries.
The deadline for submitting applications is 13 February 2025, at 17:00 (Central European Time).
