Description:
The ”la Caixa” Foundation launches the INPhINIT 2026 edition of its prestigious doctoral fellowship programme, aimed at young researchers of any nationality who wish to carry out their PhD project at leading research institutions in Spain or Portugal.

The programme offers competitive financial support, complementary training in transferable skills, personalised mentoring, and integration into an international network of outstanding researchers.

There are two types of fellowships available:

INPhINIT – Incoming Call 2026

For researchers wishing to pursue their doctoral studies at Spanish centres awarded the Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinctions, Carlos III Health Research Institutes, or Portuguese centres recognised as excellent by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

Key dates:

Status: Open

Application deadline: 28 January 2026, at 2:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time)

Preselection results and interview invitations: 27 April 2026

Selection interviews: 20, 21 and 22 May 2026

Final results announcement: 29 May 2026

 

INPhINIT – Retaining Call 2026

For researchers who are already based in Spain or Portugal and wish to conduct their PhD project in any research field and at any university or research centre in these countries.

Key dates:

Status: Open

Application deadline: 18 February 2026, at 2:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time)

Preselection results and interview invitations: 20 May 2026

Selection interviews: 11 and 12 June 2026

Final results announcement: 23 June 2026

 

Funding:

  • Employment costs: €35,800 per year (employment contract with the host institution).
  • Research costs: €3,500 per year, to cover expenses directly related to the research project.
  • Tuition fees: Full coverage of PhD programme enrolment fees.
