This summer, as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, various conservation works were carried out on the island of Faial, namely in the intervention area located south of Caldeira, covering an area of approximately 135 hectares.

Among the actions carried out, we highlight the monitoring of the removal of invasive alien species in Ribeira da Lomba, an essential measure for the recovery of natural habitats and protected flora in this location.

At the same time, the planting of native species was monitored in order to assess their development and the effectiveness of the strategies implemented.

Photographs were also taken of the main viewpoints in the intervention area, and seeds from native species were collected, which will serve as a basis for future ecological restoration and population reinforcement actions.

These initiatives fall under the following actions: C3.2 – In-situ conservation, C8.1 – Control and eradication of invasive alien species, and D5.1 – Monitoring of terrestrial habitats and species and conservation problems.
