As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, we have excellent news regarding the germination of Limonium vulgare, a key species for restoring the habitat on Ilhéu da Vila (Action C6.1 – Restoring habitats for seabirds).
The seeds germinated successfully in the Azores Seed Bank (BSA), and the specimens are now growing in nurseries (Action C3.2 – In situ Conservation). The team continues the transplanting process, and the individuals show auspicious development.
In the early stages of germination, the species was found to have low water requirements. Spray irrigation has been maintained, as advised by the technical team, and the results have been very positive.
If seeds are still available, the next step will be to test germination and propagation directly in the nurseries.
