As part of action C6.1 – Restoration of habitats on islets for the conservation of seabirds, the Graciosa Environment and Climate Action Service team carried out a necessary intervention on the Ilhéu da Praia walking trail.
This action aimed to reinforce the boundaries of the existing trail, promoting more sustainable and controlled visitation to this sensitive area, where efforts to restore natural habitats have been ongoing since 1995.
The improvements included:
– Upgrading the walking trail, promoting safer and more responsible circulation;
– Rehabilitating the viewpoint, offering visitors a more comfortable experience without compromising the ecological balance of the islet.
These interventions are part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, which aims to protect the biodiversity and natural ecosystems of the Archipelago, reaffirming the regional authorities’ commitment to the conservation of natural heritage.
These actions represent another step towards preserving the unique ecosystems of Ilhéu da Praia, while promoting environmental education and raising visitors’ awareness of the importance of nature conservation.
