As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, the Flores Environment and Climate Action Service recently carried out an ecological conservation intervention, under action C4. 1 – Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats in the Caldeira Branca area, to promote the recovery of native vegetation and improve the conservation status of the natural habitats existing in this site of high environmental value.

During the work, clusters of invasive alien species were removed, as these compete directly with native flora and compromise the natural regeneration processes of the Caldeira Branca ecosystems. This stage is particularly important, as invasive species tend to quickly occupy sensitive areas, reducing biological diversity and altering habitat structure.

Once the invasive species control phase was completed, carefully selected native and endemic species were planted, including species that structure the habitats present in the area where the work was carried out.
