The team from Faial Environment and Climate Action Service has been carrying out various planting initiatives as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, focusing on priority intervention areas, namely the banks of the Ribeira das Águas Claras and the Charcos de Pedro Miguel.

Among the work recently carried out, highlights include the planting of Azorean Cherry (Prunus lusitanica spp. azorica) and Azorean Holly (Ilex azorica) saplings in the Pedro Miguel Botanic Garden, as well as the planting of Azorean Laurel (Laurus azorica) and Azorean Buckthorn (Frangula azorica) specimens in the pond area.

As the work continues, the areas already treated are being further reinforced. Along the banks of the Ribeira das Águas Claras, Azorean Holly and Azorean Buckthorn have been planted, whilst in the Pedro Miguel Ponds, specimens of Azorean Laurel, Azorean Buckthorn, Azorean Holly and Azorean Cherry have already been introduced.

These interventions form part of Actions C3.2 “In-situ conservation” and C4.1 “Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats” of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project.
