As part of Actions C4.1’ Recovery of Natural Habitats’ and C8.1’ Control of Invasive Alien Species’, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, in collaboration with Terceira Environment and Climate Action Service, carried out an important planting action.
Over the past week, more than 900 native tree species have been planted, contributing to the recovery of natural ecosystems and strengthening local biodiversity. This initiative is part of efforts to conserve and ecologically restore the Azores’ priority habitats, promoting the sustainability and resilience of the island’s ecosystems.
The action took place at Turfeira da Lomba, a conservation area of high ecological importance on the island of Terceira. This site is one of the few remaining examples of high-altitude peatbogs in the Azores, playing a fundamental role in water regulation, carbon storage and the preservation of endemic biodiversity.
