As part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, a volunteer initiative dedicated to the ecological restoration of Lagoa do Fogo was carried out, as part of Action E5 – Public involvement and volunteer programme.
A group of 21 students from the University of Plymouth joined the initiative, with the primary mission of controlling and removing invasive alien species that threaten this natural habitat. The fieldwork consisted of manually removing these plants.
This intervention actively contributed to the recovery of native ecosystems and the preservation of the unique biodiversity of Lagoa do Fogo.
We want to express our special thanks to the students from Plymouth University, whose commitment and dedication were fundamental to the conservation of nature in the Azores.
