The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project’s team, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, carried out several monitoring actions in the intervention areas of Terceira island, within the scope of Action D5.1 – Monitoring of terrestrial habitats, to evaluate the condition and evolution of the plantings of endemic species, as well as the intervened peatbog areas.
The results indicate that the plantings are stable, highlighting the high survival rate of species such as Azorean Spurge (Euphorbia stygiana) and Azorean Angelica (Angelica lignescens), demonstrating the effectiveness of the implemented ecological restoration measures.
Regarding wetland habitats, five peatbogs were monitored, all presenting an evolutionary state considered acceptable, with two being in excellent development, with consistent signs of ecological regeneration. These monitoring actions allow for the adjustment and optimisation of conservation strategies, contributing to the maintenance and recovery of priority natural ecosystems on Terceira island and reinforcing LIFE IP AZORES NATURA’s commitment to protecting local biodiversity.
