The Escola Básica Integrada da Maia, located in the municipality of Ribeira Grande on the island of São Miguel, recently hosted an initiative as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, dedicated to the removal of invasive alien species and the planting of native species.
This activity aimed to restore the landscape around the Frades viewpoint, located on the coastline of the parish of Maia, and will have the future goal of planting endemic species there.
With the involvement of the school community, the initiative contributed to the area’s ecological enhancement and raised students’ awareness of the importance of biodiversity conservation.
This initiative reinforces the commitment to protecting Azorean ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices among future generations.
With the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
