As part of Action C3.2 – Implementation of pilot projects for the conservation of endemic flora (in-situ conservation), the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, continues to restore populations of protected species and those prioritised for conservation in the Azores.
On the islet of Praia, the following were planted:
- 509 specimens of Myosotis maritima
- 43 specimens of Crithmum maritimum
- 1 specimen of Euphorbia azorica
On the island of Graciosa, at various intervention sites, the following were planted:
- 39 specimens of Azorina vidalii
- 229 specimens of Myosotis maritima
These actions aim to strengthen existing populations, increase the resilience of endemic species and contribute to the recovery of natural habitats.
At the same time, as part of Action D5.1 – Monitoring of habitats and species, a vegetation survey was carried out on Ilhéu da Praia, enabling the progress of habitat and species restoration in this area to be monitored, in conjunction with the conservation work carried out throughout the project to restore habitats on islets for seabirds.
All this work was carried out by the team from the Environment and Climate Action Service on the island of Graciosa, whose commitment and technical expertise have been fundamental to the success of the actions implemented on the ground.
