The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), partner of the project LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, is organizing the IV Atlas do Priolo that will take place between 27 June and 1 July on São Miguel. This complementary project, which has this year 50 volunteers, aims to count the population of Azores Bullfinch (𝘗𝘺𝘳𝘳𝘩𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘢), locally called priolo, existing in the Pico da Vara/Ribeira do Guilherme Special Protection Area and surrounding areas (Nordeste and Povoação councils), to obtain an accurate and rigorous picture of the current situation of this species.
It is an initiative organized every four years by SPEA that, since 2008, follows the evolution of the Azores Bullfinch population, obtaining fundamental information to plan the necessary measures to protect this species.
We remind you that the Azores Bullfinch is a unique species, existing only on the island of São Miguel, being also one of the target species of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change.
