In collaboration with Escola Secundária da Ribeira Grande, LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, organised an activity to remove invasive species and plant endemic ones at Areal de Santa Bárbara on the island of São Miguel.

Fourteen students and three teachers participated in this initiative, strengthening the school community’s environmental and educational commitment.

This activity was organised in partnership with the São Miguel Environment and Climate Change Service, Escola Secundária da Ribeira Grande and Ribeira Grande City Council, with the municipality facilitating contact with the school and transporting the green waste, contributing to sustainable resource management.

The area where the activity took place is home to the target species of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, protected by the Habitats Directive. The collaboration of organisations and the community is essential for maintaining and monitoring this site to preserve the populations of endemic species found here.
