In May, took place the webinar “Management of Invasive Species in Geoparks”, integrated with the project “Biennium for Climate Action in Portuguese Geoparks”, promoted by UNESCO Geoparks – Portugal and contenders to this classification, in partnership with the Tourism of Portugal.
During this event, several projects that deal daily with the problem of invasive species management were presented. One of the projects invited to present their work in this area was LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change.
During the presentation of the work developed by LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, the project manager, Diana Pereira, highlighted the work that has been done, not only under the project but also in the Region, regarding the fight against invasive alien species, 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵 restoration, and strengthening of native and endemic populations.
To date, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project has been responsible for intervention in 176 ha of restored 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘴 under Action C8.1 – Control and eradication of invasive plants in restored terrestrial 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘴.
