Within the scope of Action C3.2 – 𝘐𝘯-𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘶 Conservation, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project’s field workers started the new year with a planting action of the endemic species Azorean Sanicle (𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢) on the ridge of the Caldeira do Faial.
This priority species for the conservation of nature is protected by the Habitats Directive and the Bern Convention and is one of the species included among the “one hundred priority threatened species in terms of management in the European biogeographical region of Macaronesia”.
The 16 individuals come from a germination test at the Azores Seed Bank (BSA), with seeds from plants original from the bottom of the Caldeira. From now on, Faial Environment and Climate Change Service will monitor and ensure the maintenance of this plantation.
