The project will carry out a set of tasks to improve the ecological recovery of the bog, namely its water and floristic regime:
– Eradication of more than 20 000 Cryptomeria japonica trees by cutting and shredding biomass, or killing larger trees standing;
– Removal of exotic and invasive species, such as Hedychium gardnerianum and Metrosideros excelsa;
– Promotion of natural regeneration of native species such as Juniperus brevifolia, Vaccinium cylindraceum and Sphagnum sp., among others;
– Increased water retention by blocking drainage from pedestrian trails.
