Action C14.1 “Integrated assessment and mitigation of the negative impacts of tourism on trails in the Natura 2000 Network” of the LIFE IP Azores Natura project foresees the installation of a pyroelectric infrared motion detector per island in order to start collecting data on the visitor rate of nature trails in the Azores. After drying the cement foundation, which was made in early May, the sensors on the Caminho dos Burros (Pico) and Entre Montes (Faial) trails were installed last week by a technician from Amberjack Solutions (https:// www.facebook.com/Amberjacksolutions). With the installation of the sensors, the collection of data on the concrete dimension of nature trail usage and impacts by tourists begins, which will help define adequate management measures and tools that can be more widely applied throughout all the existing N2000 trails in the Azores.
