The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change proceed to another extensive conservation and 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵 restoration action, this time at the Lagoa do Fogo (lake), on the island of São Miguel, planting about 7500 endemic species on the scene.
This intervention area was thus renaturalised through the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, with previous process in which invasive species were removed, and a subsequent planting of species characteristic of this habitat, namely 5000 specimens of Tree Heath (𝘌𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢), 2200 𝘝𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘶𝘮 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘪 and 288 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘢 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴.
These works are integrated in the conservation action C4.1 – Best practice for terrestrial habitat conservation – of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, with aims at the in-situ conservation of endemic species and improving the conservation status of habitat.
