The following interventions of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project will take place in the Custody of Nature area to promote the recovery of native flora populations that occur here:
– Mechanical removal of exotic and invasive species, mainly Agave americana and Carpobrotus edulis, but also other species, such as Cyrtomium falcatum and Opuntia maxima;
– Construction of barriers made of tree trunks to support the slopes in locations where the invasive flora has been removed, in order to prevent erosion;
– Planting of native species that occur naturally in this area: Azorina vidalii, Euphorbia azorica, Festuca petraea, Limonium vulgare, Lotus azoricus and Spergularia azorica.
