This project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, participated in the Santa Maria Advisory Board to present the work carried out so far, as well as the work to carry out during this year.
It is important to mention the various monitoring works that have been carried out on the 203 artificial seabird nests on Ihéu da Vila (islet), and the removal of invasive species in this area and in Ponta de Castelo.
Also, as part of the project’s conservation actions, the survey work of the target species will be continued throughout the island to identify the threats faced by each of the populations and install control measures. In 2021/2022, a total of 70 individuals of 𝘌𝘶𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘦 were planted in Ribeira do Salto. Currently, the target species Azorean Fleshy Bishopsweed (𝘈𝘮𝘮𝘪 𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘮) and Azorean Bellflower (𝘈𝘻𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘪) have been propagated in the Faial Botanic Garden to strengthen populations in the field.
This participation fits in the Action F4 of the project that establishes the Advisory Board in each of the islands, with the purpose of the counsellors monitoring the management and implementation of the actions on each of the islands.
